A Voice For The Wild
An award-winning documentary, commissioned by a non-profit, launched at a prestigious film festival, and sold to a national media brand — all resulting in a simultaneously awareness-raising and revenue-generating film for the client.
A precarious journey to protect a sacred place.
Friends of the Boundary Waters approached Credo Nonfiction after witnessing the festival and streaming success of our award-winning documentary, Breaking Trail, which followed the cold-weather journey of long distance hiker Emily Ford and a borrowed sled dog named Diggins.
As a non-profit charged with keeping a wilderness area safe from copper mining threats, they were hoping to tell a character-driven story that could get viewers invested on an emotional level in what was happening in the Boundary Waters Wilderness.
We created A Voice For The Wild as a follow-up adventure to Breaking Trail, organically infused with messaging important to Friends of the Boundary Waters, but from Emily’s authentic point of view. The resulting film was able to follow a similar festival path as Breaking Trail, premiering at the presigious BANFF Film Festival, after which Credo Nonfiction was able to broker a digital distribution deal with Conde Nast Traveller that would mean tens of thousands of streaming views for our client, while they were also paid a license fee that helped offset production costs — a first for them and rare, industry-wide, for a brand-funded documentary.
